Imagine getting paid for creating videos about reviewing or driving cars? I’m sure this is something, everyone would love to do at some point in their life but guess what? Starting a car YouTube channel is much easier than you think. Even if you are reading this in 2020, it is never too late to start a car YouTube channel.
This short guide is going to show you how to turn your dreams of owning a car YouTube channel into a reality. This article will be broken down into 3 parts.
- Picking your niche
- Creating a plan & focusing on trends
- Executing your plan
Let’s begin!
Picking your niche
Before you start uploading videos to your car YouTube channel, you first need to pick your niche. Yes cars itself is a niche, but it is very broad. We need to narrow things down even further. This will make planning for videos & marketing them a lot easier.
First, you need to figure out what type of cars will you be working with?
- Classics
- Microcars
- Economy Hatchback
- Sedan
- Coupe
- Sports Car
- Convertibles
- SUV’s
- Luxury Cars
- Pickups
- Crossover
- Estate Cars
- Modified Cars
- Limousines
- Hybrid Cars
We recommend picking about 2 – 3 vehicle types from that list to keep things easy. Next, we need to figure out what type of videos we will be creating for our chosen vehicle types.
Video Ideas
- Reviews
- Drive Test
- Drag Racing
- Off-road
- Repair
- Modifying/Modding
- Animation
- Cleaning
- Crashing
The list could go on forever, but those are a few ideas we could think of. Spend about 5 – 15minutes on this step narrowing down the type of videos you will be creating for your car YouTube channel.
After those exercises are complete, we can now move to the next step.
Creating a plan & focusing on Trends
As Benjamin Franklin said, ” If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. The same can be said about YouTube, making it the next step we will be focusing on.
It is important to create a plan for YouTube because the YouTube Algorithm will show your videos to more people and you will be able to upload car videos at a consistent pace.
For car YouTube channel, we highly recommend posting 2-3 times a week. Any less then that will make growing on YouTube a long process, and more will overwhelm you.
So for now, plan on uploading 2-3 videos a week to your channel. The best way to do this is to create an excel sheet or get a piece of paper and write down 3 days you can dedicate some time to YouTube.
For this example lets just say
Monday
Wednesday
Friday
Now that you have your days set, its time to assign a theme or topic to it.
Example below
Monday Car Review
Wednesday Test Drive
Friday Performance
After this step is done, re-write your schedule 4 times to represent 4 weeks within the month & start planning your first months worth of YouTube videos. We recommend using an excel sheet for simplicity.
After you finish this, your sheet should look something like this.

When creating your plan, making sure you have a few content dedicated to your industry trends. Trends are a great way to get quick traffic to your channel. This tactic is extremely helpful for smaller channels that are just starting or struggling to get views.
Now that your channel planning is done, its time to execute!
Executing your plan
Executing is the fun part. This is where you get to interact with your favorite cars & make videos about them. How cool is that?
Now before you start uploading to your channel, we highly recommend you complete this exercise because a lot of new channel owners tend to get stuck around this point. When its time to start executing their plan, almost everyone starts procrastinating on uploading their first video.
How do we avoid this? Simple, follow the instructions below.
Before you start to execute your channels video plan, upload 2-3 videos showing your face. In these videos, you can introduce yourself, state your channels purpose/mission or even show people around your cars.
This exercise is a great ice breaker to help get your channel rolling. A lot of people are scared to post their first video, but doing this will eliminate that fear.
